Oppidan by Access To Arasaka
I have been listening to Oppidan by Access to Arasaka at least daily for the past week. I have to tell someone about it, so what follows are my thoughts.
The ever more I immerse myself in the worlds of digital space, the less and less interested I become in classifying things by movement. I suppose you might classify this as electronica but it’s electronically created music, so I’m just going to think of it as such. And let me tell you this album is some absolutely fantastic electronic music.
Drawing the artists name from Cyberpunk 2020 offshoot card game Netrunner, I find metaversal influences apparent in Oppidan. Every use of digital crush and technological noise perfectly contours to the rhythms Oppidan has to offer. It sprints through harrowing breaks of fantastic bass-driven beats broken up by ethereal moments that slow down the pace and let the mind breathe. The net effect is an asynchronous musical experience that perfectly accompanies reflection or visual work.
I have been particularly enjoying listening whilst creating designs with technical and an architectural look. Give it a listen, it’ll be worth your time.
